It was on my first visit to the Northumberland coast that I discovered the field of basalt boulders on the beach at Embleton Bay. These rocks take on the colour of the sky at sunrise and sunset, and make a great foreground to the stunning seascapes along this stretch of coast. This shot was taken on a spring evening, just after the sun went down. I had hurried along the beach with the hope of catching the last rays of the sun on Dunstanburgh Castle, but was too late. Instead, I turned the other way and captured this scene dominated by the blue tones of the evening sky reflecting from the boulders and the sea.
